who we are
Pilates may just be only words for many people, but at Romana’s Pilates it’s the exercises and philosophies of Joseph & Clara Pilates that we teach, as handed down to protege Romana and her daughter Sari. This is what we call “REAL PILATES”. Through Romana’s Pilates you purposely acquire complete control of your own body and then, through proper repetition of its exercises, you will gradually and progressively acquire that natural rhythm and coordination associated with all your mental and subconcious activities. The Pilates method we exercise in our studio in Cannes is designed to give you suppleness, natural grace and skill that will be unmistakably reflected in the way you walk, play and work. You will develop muscular power with corresponding endurance, ability to perform arduous duties, to play strenuous games, to walk, run or travel for long distances without undue body fatigue or mental strain. LINDA DE HAVILAND
My passion for dance brought me from Balanchine and the New York City Ballet to Broadway with Cabaret, Chicago, On your Toes, and more. I have perfomed throughout the USA and Europe as both a Classical ballerina and a Broadway performer. My passion for music (piano, harpsichord and composing) brought me from the Juilliard School of Music in New York to writing musicals and works for both modern dance and classical ballet.
I was also lucky enough to have a successful career as a fashion model throughout the USA and Europe, working with all the top photographers such as Sarah Moon, David Bailey, Norman Parkinson, Arthur Elgort and many more. I have had the honor to be on the covers of such magazines as ELLE, MARIE CLAIRE, BRIDES, 17, and more yet… But it was my love of mouvement that brought me to Pilates to help my Ballet students prevent injury and grow stronger. Holding a high level Professor Degree in Classical Ballet, delivered by the French Ministry of Culture called the C.A, a DE in piano(specificity Dance). I also am a Certified Romanas Pilates Instructor . I was the head of the Ballet department at the Conservatoire d’Istres for many years, with over 150 students in all disciplines when I decided to open my own Pilates Studio: Real Pilates Cannes over 9 years ago. While still instructing dancers in Pilates we teach everyone from ages from 15 to 80…. I joined forces with Sophie Pradines 3 years ago , and we have developed a strong and faithfull International clientele. Our training never ends: we personally train very hard on a regular basis, and encourage the Pilates Lifestyle to all our clients.
I look forward to teaching all, whether you are 15 or 85.
Sophie Pradines started her dance training at the age of 7 as a student of the prestigious School of the Paris Opéra. She then continued her studies at the National Conservatory of Paris obtaining the 1er Prix de Danse Classique Her professional career started in Paris as a soloist in the Company of Alain Davesne, then the Company of Jacques Dombrowski in Paris and Monaco. She rapidly climbed the ranks to become a soloist at the Opéra de Dijon at the age of 18.
In 1994 she opened her own dance school: the “Centre de Dance de Dijon” which rapidly acquired a sterling reputation for high level instruction in Classical Ballet. Highly professional and pedagogically engaging, she taught both amateurs and professionals for over 10 years
Having discovered a growing interest the the Pilates Method, she went on to acquire over 700 hours of apprenticeship and practice with the foremost instructors from new York who regularly came to Paris at the Studio Pilates de Paris, run by Philippe Taupin who was trained by Romana Kryzanowska, Joesph Pilates protégée. She opened her Pilates studio in Cannes in 2009.
From a very young age, I always have been passionate about sports and this brought me to develop my skills and become a certified sports instructor through the French sports ministry, this after I had studied anatomy, psychology and in depth teaching methods. Having travelled extensively throughout the world, I developed an open mindedness and a true sense of communication. My diverse experiences with meeting people and learning to share, gave me an in depth understanding on how to adapt under each and every circumstance. Through intense reflection, it is my belief that all human beings are looking for happiness and fulfillment.
Being a semi –professional athlete, I suffered serious injury and while recovering I discovered the Authentic Pilates Method. After the first lessons, I my body immediately felt the results which continued until I was finally pain free. From that day on, my life took a new turn. I trained with Mme Herreria in Aix en Provence and Mr. Taupin in Paris and obtained my diploma, certified through New York, as a certified Romanas Pilates Instructor.
