FAQ
Pilates is a training system designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture, and balance.
Pilates is a method of deep muscular strengthening, created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It is based on six fundamental principles: concentration, control, centre, flow, precision, and breathing. Each movement engages the postural muscles, mobilises the joints, and reconnects the body to the mind. It is a demanding yet low-impact practice, accessible to all ages and all physical conditions. At the studio, we teach The original Pilates method passed down by Romana Kryzanowska, direct heiress of Joseph Pilates.
What will Pilates bring me?
A lot, and faster than you might imagine. A straighter posture, a stronger core, deeper breathing, more mobile joints. Physically, Pilates sculpts, lengthens, and tones without building bulk. Mentally, it's a moment of concentration that calms and refocuses you. Consistency makes all the difference: you'll start to feel the benefits within the first few weeks.
What's the difference between mat Pilates and reformer Pilates?
Pilates mat work uses body weight and a few accessories (ring, ball, band). It's the foundation of the method, perfect for integrating the fundamental principles. Machine-based Pilates, on the other hand, relies on spring-loaded apparatus (Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel) which guide movement, add adjustable resistance, and allow for more precise and varied work. In the studio, we work on the’Set of traditional Pilates apparatus for the richness and subtlety they offer.
I've never done Pilates before, can I come to a reformer class?
Yes, absolutely. To get started in the best conditions, we offer a 50-minute one-to-one taster session with Sophie, designed for you to familiarise yourself with the equipment, understand the fundamentals of the method, and then find the format that suits you. No prior experience is necessary.
What are the different course formats offered?
Three formats, one method.
The Private lesson is the most complete experience: individual session on all equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Barrel, Mat), 100 % adapted to your body and your goals. This is the reference format for Real Pilates.
The Duet class It is practised with two people on a Reformer. Progress is faster than in a group class, and the cost is shared. Ideal for coming with a loved one, partner, or a friend of the same level.
The Group class Accommodates a maximum of 3 people on the reformer to preserve the quality of supervision and corrections. Suitable for intermediate and advanced levels.
Do you offer a discovery package for new customers?
What should I bring for my first class?
Comfortable, form-fitting clothing (baggy clothes can hinder corrections and snag on springs), non-slip socks, and a water bottle. Avoid zips and jewellery that could damage the machines. Arrive 10 minutes before your session to meet your instructor, discuss any contraindications, and settle onto the equipment calmly.
Are there showers at the studio?
The studio has well-kept changing rooms. For any practical questions about available equipment, please do not hesitate to Contact us directly, we will reply to you quickly.
Can I sign up if I'm pregnant or injured?
The Group classes are designed for practitioners with a solid knowledge of the Reformer and the method's fundamentals. The pace is continuous, and individual corrections are necessarily briefer than in private or duet sessions. If you are a beginner, we recommend starting with an introductory class or a few private lessons to get the basics down. You'll progress much faster and make the most of the group afterwards.
Do you offer courses in English?
Sophie Margolis I teach in both French and English. Simply state your preference when booking, or let me know when you get in touch, and all lessons (private, duo, discovery) can be provided in either language.
